Gov’t Chief Whip, and MP survive helicopter crash in Kabale

The Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu and Rukiga District Woman Member of parliament, Caroline Kamusiime last evening survived a helicopter crash in Kabale District.

The trio was traveling back to Kampala in a privately hired helicopter registration Number 5X-KEG that belongs to Kampala Executive Aviation. Nankabirwa was in Kabale to officiate at the district’s belated women’s day celebrations at St. Barnabas Secondary School in Karujanga, Katuna Town Council.

According to an eye witness, after take-off at the Kabale golf course in Makanga, the helicopter lost control and its rotors got in contact with electricity wires, forcing it into rocky maneuvers. The pilot identified as Chris Chebit assisted by Rowen Mcharry, all South African nationals immediately made a decision to make an emergency landing.

The Police Spokesperson for Kigezi Region, Elly Maate says that after the helicopter got on the ground, Nankabirwa and others jumped out unhurt. Maate also says that police has launched investigations into the matter. The incident is registered at Kabale Police station under file number SD40/06/04/2018.
