“Government to regulate the operations of artisanal miners” – Minister Nyamutoro
The Minister of State for Mineral Development, Phiona Nyamutoro, has revealed that the government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development is to regulate the operations of artisanal miners to formalize their operations and mitigate environmental impacts.
Speaking yesterday at White Horse Inn in Kabale Municipality during a consultation and sensitization workshop on artisanal mining regulations, Nyamutoro, revealed that the Ministry of Energy has partnered with several organizations, including Planet Gold, Impact, and the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to gazette mining areas and license the miners.
She said the government is going to reach all the central places that have a significant number of artisanal miners so that this is inclusive enough to ensure that all their issues are captured to help them have a regulation in place that is appreciative of the people.
