Kabale Receives Anthrax Vaccines Following Suspected Outbreak

In response to the recent suspected anthrax outbreak in Muyumbu Parish in Kyanamira Sub County, Kabale District Local Government yesterday received 19,200 doses of anthrax vaccine from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF) to inoculate healthy animals in the area.

This comes after seven cumulative suspected cases of Human Anthrax Disease (Bacillius anthracis) were reported from Kyanamira Sub County. The suspected disease has so far killed 7 cows, 2 goats and 1 sheep in Muyumbu Parish.

The Kabale District Communications Officer, Alex Byakatonda, told our reporter today morning the vaccines will help to contain the suspected disease, as they wait for results from the Uganda Virus Research Institute, about the suspected disease. Byakatonda advised the public to bury carcasses and avoid consuming or slaughtering dead animals that die suddenly.
