Kabale District Chairperson Suspended After Heated Budget Meeting Showdown.

The Kabale District Speaker Flavia Nyinakiiza Kanagizi yesterday suspended the District Chairperson Nelson Nshangabasheija from attending the next two council sessions, following a series of confrontations during the 2026/2027 budget finalization meetings.

Nyinakiiza said the decision was prompted by Nshangabasheija’s refusal to present the budget, as he insisted that the council first approve his nominees for the District Public Accounts Committee and the District Land Board. The situation escalated when Nyinakiiza called for the budget to be tabled, but Nshangabasheija’s shouted demands disrupted the proceedings, forcing a ten-minute suspension.

When the session reconvened, Nshangabasheija remained outside the chamber and refused to rejoin the debate. With the council’s work stalled, the District Vice-Chairperson Miria Tugume stepped in to present the budget after waiting for the chairperson’s return proved futile.

Speaker Nyinakiiza noted that the suspension is intended to preserve the decorum and efficiency of council business.
