Bukomansimbi Murder Suspects Escape From Court

Two key suspects in the recent wave of murders and robberies that occurred in the greater Masaka sub-region have today afternoon escaped from court.

Musa Galiwango and Muhammad Kidawalime had been arrested as part of a group that attacked four villages in Lwengo and Bukomansimbi districts killings five people on New Year’s Day.

The suspects had been produced before Masaka Chief Magistrate’s court for the mention of the case before committal to the High Court.  Drama ensued inside a fully-packed courtroom when the duo went on a rampage and suddenly escaped from the courtroom before taking off past the unsuspecting security personnel.

According to presiding magistrate Samuel Munobe, the prosecution had preferred fresh murders against the accused persons, whose mention was due today.

He narrates that the suspects took advantage of a security loophole as prison warders went to collect their case files and eventually jumped over the court dock and run away through the main door.  The suspects jumped over the court fences and run towards Kkumbu forest reserve, located in Kimmanya-Kyabakuza division.
