Iremera Primary School in Muko Sub County of Rubanda District in South Western Uganda, is struggling to operate, following a heavy downpour that pounded the area on Friday last week and blew off the rooftops of two classrooms and staffroom block.
Primary one and two pupils now study under trees in the school compound. The school Head Teacher, Evaristo Kanyonza, wonders how the situation will be by end of the term since the school is financially constrained and cannot even manage to construct makeshift classrooms.
The Rubanda District Acting Education Officer, Celestine Magezi, says the district has no money to help the school. He says no money was allocated for relief and disasters in the district. Magezi instead, advises school authorities to lobby for relief through the Office of the Prime Minister and also urges the parents to contribute and renovate the destroyed classroom blocks.
The school has produced prominent leaders and businessmen including current Rubanda West MP, Eng. Denis Sabiiti Bamwoya, the former Bufumbira South MP, Eddie Kwizera Wagahungu, the former Rubanda West MP, Henry Banyenzaki and the former Rubanda West aspirant, Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera.
