The Wakiso district medical records and health information officer, Allan Osotre, has attributed the increase in the HIV/Aids prevalence among the youths in Uganda to too much consumption of alcohol.
Osotre made the remarks at the weekend, while addressing parents and graduands during the graduation ceremony of 09 students of Assumption Vocational school that was held at the school grounds in Rwanyena village, Nyakabungo ward, and Lyakarimira town council in Kabale district. The students graduated in various vocational disciplines like catering, tourism and hotel management, tailoring and knitting among others.
Osotre, observed that most youth tend join bad peer groups and end up engaging in bad vices like alcoholism and prostitution, which leads them to contract sexually transmitted diseases live HIV/Aids.
According to a survey made in 2017 by BMC public health, Overall HIV
prevalence was 19.7%.
