Gladiators win Kigezi 7s High Altitude tourney

Gladiators RFC are the Champions of the Kigezi 7s High Altitude Rugby tournament that took place on Saturday 16th June at Kabale Municipal Stadium in Kabale District.

The tourney which was organized by the Uganda Rugby Union and sponsored by Bunyonyi Safaris Resort, Voice  of  Kigezi FM and Kabale  Municipal Council, attracted four teams including Gladiators RFC, Rams RFC, Kigezi select, Mbarara Titans RFC, and two secondary schools-Kigezi College Butobere and Kigezi High School.

Gladiators emerged winners after beating Rams in Finals with 24-0 points, during the one day tournament that was played under the round Robin format.

In the secondary schools games, Kigezi High School Defeated Kigezi College Butobere by 7-0 points to lift the secondary school cup category.

Richard Lumu, the   leader of Rams RFC said that being the first time in Kabale, the experience they got was good because many people attended the tournament. He said it also helped players from Kabale to get exposed and learn from more exposed Kampala teams.

Jude Rwakayanga the coordinator of the tournament said will be made annual where several teams from across the country will be participating, with an aim of strengthening the Uganda rugby Union.

Andrew Agaba the station Manager Voice of Kigezi FM, who was the Chief Guest, asked people of Kigezi to embrace Rugby sport and allow their children explore in several talents to better their being.
