Kabale Parents Protest Sexuality Education Framework by MoE

Some parents in Kabale District are protesting the proposed Sexuality Education framework, recently approved by the Ministry of Education and Sports, allowing schools to teach primary school pupils “dating and courtship.”

The framework, expected to be unveiled by the Ministry of Education this month, has clustered learners into five groups targeting pre-primary, primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. It is in upper primary cluster targeting learners aged 10 to 12 years, that dating and courtship topics will be introduced.

Areas to be covered in the upper primary cluster under dating and courtship include; understanding that attraction to the opposite sex is natural; understanding that males and females are attracted by different things, understanding what dating relationships are and why they are not good for pre-teens among others.

However, Conrad Kimonge,a resident of Bugongi Ward in Kabale Municipality says that it looks that the Ministry of Education and Sports has just run short of ideas, saying that Sex Education should be left to parents and church leaders.

Annet Muhwezi and Rosemary Munyaneza, all residents of Nyakijumba in Kyanamira Sub County say that the move will increase sexual immorality among children.

Donantus Turinawe Eguma, a resident of Central Division in Kabale Municipality says that the topic of reproduction in science subject is enough to teach children how their bodies change sexually.
