Kisoro Couple held for aiding defilement

Police in Kisoro district is holding a couple for aiding the defilement of their 16 year daughter.

The couple has been identified as, Fulgensi Hakimana and Sikola Kemirembe, residents of Bizenga village in Nyundo Sub county of Kisoro district. The couple is said to have married off the minor to 19 year John Asiimwe, after paid bride price of one cow and 1.5million shillings. Asiimwe was also arrested in connection with the matter.

The Kigezi region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, says that the suspected defiler, Asiimwe is said to have been cohabiting with the minor for five months, until yesterday morning, when they were arrested at Bizenga Catholic church, before being wedded into holy matrimony.

The wedding mass was being presided over by Rev Fr Joseph Sebatware attached to Mutolere parish. Maate adds police swung in action, after receiving information about the incident.

The case is registered at Kisoro police station under file number CRB 248/2018.  This is not the first incident to be registered in Kigezi region.

Early January this year, David Benge,42 a resident of Isingiro village, Rubanda district  was arrested for marrying off his 14 year old biological daughter to a 75 year old man  identified as Denis Tamukunzi, of the same residence.

Benge had received 1.5 million Shillings from Tamukunzi as dowry for the minor. The Village Chairman, Benon Shokyerera was also arrested for presiding over the giveaway ceremony.
