The Sustainable Land Management Specialist in-charge of South Western Uganda high lands Agro-Ecological Zone Dr Vettes Kalema has expressed concern over the increased landslides and floods in Kigezi region.
In an Interview with our reporter on phone today, Dr Kalema said that despite the sensitization of farmers about good farming methods, some of them have failed to implement them.
Dr Kalema said that since Kigezi is hilly, all farmers should incorporate Sustainable Land Management practices like maintaining terraces, integrating agro forestry, rehabilitating degraded water shades and mulching, among other methods, in order to mitigate landslides.
She said that some parts of Kigezi region are at risk of being hit by famine in the near future.
