Mbarara ‘s most wanted robber has died barely hours after being arrested by Police in Mbarara .
The deceased had been arrested in the wee hours of Wednesday after several months on the run.
According to Mbarara district police commander Jaffar Magyezi, Hussein Guma was the most wanted robber in the area having masterminded several robberies in Mbarara and Bushenyi area.
Magyezi says that they worked with the Flying Squad to have the suspected arrested after getting intelligence that he was at his home in KateteNyamitanga division on Wednesday.
He says that upon arrival at the suspect’s home who is also a Uganda people’s defense forces deserter who was attached 2nd division headquarters at Makenke, the officer were prompted to shot at him as he decided to exchange bullets with them in a bid to evade arrest.
In the process, Hussein Guma was shot three times in the stomach before he could be apprehended.
Magyezi says that Police recovered an AK47 rifle, multiple bullets, machetes, three pairs of army uniform, a radio call, a motorcycle and several tools used for breaking into buildings.
The house was also packed with a wide range of items that believed to have been stolen from locals.
Magyezi says that the deceased succumbed to bullet wounds at Mbarara referral hospital on Wednesday.
The suspect who is a born of Kigarama sub-county in Sheema district, is believed to have masterminded several robberies along high ways as well as suburbs of Mbarara Municipality.
Samson Kasasira the Rwizi regional police spokesperson told our reporter that a postmortem has been conducted and will be availed to the deceased’s family.
