A section of Members of Parliament have criticized the president’s threats directed at the Electoral Commission.
While officiating at the passing out of the newly elected women council leaders over the
weekend, President Yoweri Museveni attacked the Electoral Commission (EC) chaired by Justice Simon Byabakama accusing them of gross incompetence and threatened to get rid of them.
His statement follows the defeat of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party candidates in the Jinja Municipality East, Arua Municipality and Rukungiri Woman parliamentary elections. Now, the
Kumi Municipality MP, Monicah Amoding, says the President is being reactionary because he was defeated in these areas as the NRM party Chairman.
The Bukonjo West MP, Atkins Katusabe, says the President’s statement must have been issued in error, because Parliament vetted the Commissioners and concluded that the team was best suited to serve Ugandans.
