Police in Kabale district has arrested an ex-convict over alleged robbery and causing insecurity in the district. The suspect is, Edison Asimwe aged 46years and a resident of Rwabankinda cell Nyanja parish Maziba Sub County Kabale district.
Asimwe, was convicted for aggravated robbery and sentenced to eight years in Mbarara prison, where he served his sentence that ended in October last year.
The Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate, says that the suspect was tracked and arrested on Sunday from his home, after residents became suspicious, over his uncoordinated movements and conduct in the area. Maate says after his Asiimwe’s arrest, a search was conducted in his house, from where a motorcycle registration number UEN 149Y was recovered.
He says that when police carried out a through scrutiny, it was found out that the motorcycle was stolen from Sheema district in a suspected gun robbery.
Maate says that the intelligence information is also connecting the suspect to the recent robberies in Kabale town. He is now calling on the public to report people behaving suspiciously if they are to eliminate criminals.
