The Uganda Police Force is yet to make headway in its investigations, into the assassination of the former Arua Municipality Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Abiriga and the former Senior Principal State Attorney, Joan Kagezi Namazzi.
This was contained in a police brief, provided to the Human Rights Committee of parliament on the status of investigations into high profile murders in the country.
Unidentified assassin’s riding on a motorcycle sprayed Abiriga’s vehicle with bullets killing him and his brother, Saidi Kongo on 8th June 2018, as they drove home in Kawanda in Wakiso district. The former Senior Principal State Attorney, Joan Kagezi Namazzi was also gunned down in similar fashion on 30th March 2015, near her residence in Kiwatule, a city suburb.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Brig. Sabiiti Muzeeyi, said that a hunt is still on for the assassins in both murders. He said that the exhibits recovered from Abiriga’s murder scene are still undergoing a forensic audit to find the killers. In his report to the Committee, says 105 suspects are in custody in connection to other 9 high profile murders.
