Tooro Kingdom has formulated a land policy aimed at managing the kingdom’s vast resource. The policy comes at a time, when the kingdom is demanding its properties from the central government.
The properties, which include buildings and land, are located in Kabarole, Kamwenge, Bundibugyo, Kyenjojo and Kyegegwa districts. Others are in Kasese and Bundibugyo, areas that were formerly under Tooro Kingdom.
The objective of the policy is to economically utilize the land for food production and development projects. The policy is also in line with the 1995 constitution, 1998 land act, the national land policy, Tooro kingdom constitution.
Some of the provisions in the policy include land ownership and administration, lease of kingdom land and
the procedures, land transfer, managing land disputes, mortgaging kingdom land, land revenue management and development on kingdom land.
The Tooro Kingdom Lands Minister, Polly Kateeba, says that the policy will help safe guard the institution’s land and be used profitably by the people of Tooro.
