Kabale District Launches Kitooma Health Centre Water Project
Kabale District authorities yesterday launched the construction of Kitooma Health Centre III Piped Water Supply System in Rubaya Sub County, a project aimed at improving access to safe and clean water for both the health facility and the neighboring communities.
The project, worth 427 million shillings, was awarded to Adix Plumbers and Engineering Limited. According to Acting Senior Assistant Engineering Officer, Balam Akanyijuka, the scope of works includes development of the water source, installation of a water pump, a storage reservoir at Kitooma HCIII, construction of a collection tank, distribution networks, and both mechanical and electrical installations.
The water will also be extended to the neighboring villages of Habuhurio, Rwabihindu, and Habugarama. The Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Major Godfrey Katamba, who presided over the ceremony, urged district technical officers to adopt tree planting at every project launched to promote environmental conservation.
The Kabale Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Robert Mugabe asked the contractor to prioritize quality, warning that substandard work compromises service delivery. Mugabe sentiment was echoed by the District Speaker Flavia Nyinakiiza Kanagzi, who criticized a history of shoddy projects, citing the Buramba Gravity Flow Scheme, Kyabakonjo, and Kabaraga water projects, as prime examples of contractors previously failing to meet required standards.
