HIV Surge in Kabale: 659 New Cases, Young Women Hardest Hit

Kabale District recorded 659 new cases of HIVIAIDS during the 2024/2025 Financial Year, with over 40% of the new infections found in girls and young women aged between 20 and 34, the District Health Educator, Alfred Besigensi, has said.

Speaking today during an interview with our reporter at his office at Kabale District Headquarters, Besigensi stated that the district has seen a decrease in new HIVIAIDS cases, since 724 new cases were recorded in the 2023/2024 Financial Year.

Despite this reduction, Besigensi said that the high number of new infections especially among young women is still a major concern.

He called for intensified collaboration among all district stakeholders to expand HIVIAIDS prevention, testing, and treatment programs, with a specific focus on reaching vulnerable populations.
