Muko Health Centre IV Renamed to Rubanda General Hospital
Rubanda District Council has approved a motion to rename Muko Health Centre IV to Rubanda General Hospital after it was elevated to a General Hospital effective July 1, 2025.
The motion to rename the health facility was yesterday presented before council by the Rubanda District Chairperson, Stephen Ampaiere Kasyaba, and it was approved by all the councilors. Kasyaba told our reporter that the district has already received 1.8 Billion Shillings to recruit health workers at the hospital.
Since Rubanda District was carved out of Greater Kabale District in 2016, it has been without a general hospital and this has created a significant healthcare gap for its residents. The Rubanda District Health Officer, Dr. Abdon Birungi, earlier this year, noted that Muko Health Centre IV now a hospital was managing over 120 deliveries each month, with approximately 40 of these requiring a caesarean section.
