Kamuntu rejects Rubanda west NRM primaries results
The Rubanda West Member of Parliament, Moses Kamuntu Mwongyera, has rejected the results of Thursday’s NRM primary election, citing electoral irregularities.
In a statement posted today on his official X social media account, Kamuntu alleged instances of intimidation and other malpractices in Kacereere Town Council and Burundi Sub-County.
Kamuntu, who did not indicate whether he will challenge the results in the NRM Tribunal, hinted that he might run as an independent candidate in the general election. He repeated his slogan, “Tugumizemu Nomukozi 2026,” which translates to “Let’s continue with a dedicated leader in 2026.” Kamuntu, lost to Bruce Balaba Kabaasa, who garnered 26,302 votes compared to Kamuntu’s 24,576 votes.
