Kabale Chairman faces backlash after defying Vehicle transfer order.
Kabale District Council has condemned the actions of the District Chairman, Nelson Nshangabasheija, whom they accuse of stubbornly refusing to hand over the old official vehicle to the Chief Administrative Officer, as per a government directive.
All district chairpersons and mayors across the country were recently directed to hand over their old vehicles, after being issued new ones early last month. The Kabale District Chief Administrative Officer, Ronald Mutegeki, revealed during a council session today that he wrote a letter to Nshangabasheija, but the chairperson has yet to respond or comply, which sparked frustration among councilors.
This forced the District Speaker, Flavia Nyinakiiza Kanagizi, and councilors, including Tom Ahimbisibwe Kazemera, Peace Murungi Rutarimara, Gilbert Niwanganyira, Baker Turyamureeba, and Moses Bikorwomuhangi, to demand answers from Nshangabasheija, but their inquiries were met with repeated silence.
The council later gave Nshangabasheija until Monday next week to comply, warning that further delays would force harsher measures. Nyinakiiza emphasized the urgency of the vehicle, saying several district departments already face operational hurdles due to inadequate vehicles.
