Uncertainty clouds Kabale–Bunyonyi Tourism road as work stoppage sparks alarm.
Stakeholders and residents along the Kabale-Bunyonyi road have raised concern over the alleged suspension of construction works on the Kabale–Bunyonyi Tourism Road project, amid fears that the contractor may have abandoned the site.
The Shs 112 billion road project which was commissioned in June 2025 is being constructed by Samcrete Egypt–Engineers and Contractors with funding by the African Development Bank and was expected to be completed within 3 years. However, recent reports indicate that progress has been stopped with the recent removal of equipment and signposts along the road and the failure to maintain alternative routes during construction.
Apophia Kyarisima and Edith Mugabirwe a hotel owner said they were surprised by the removal of equipment from the site despite assurance that works would continue. Boda boda riders at Kiyora Stage said the delays have forced them to use longer routes to Lake Bunyonyi, increasing fuel costs and reducing their earnings.
