Former Rukungiri LC5 Aspirant Convicted of Shs 440M Theft and Fraud.

The Kabale Grade One Magistrate’s Court has convicted former Rukungiri LC5 chairperson aspirant Angello Twinomuhangi Bagorogoza of theft and obtaining 440 million shillings by false pretense from the Rukungiri District Woman MP-elect Mary Paula Turyahikayo Kebirungyi.

Prosecution told the court yesterday that Twinomuhangi, a former political aide to Turyahikayo, fraudulently obtained 440 million shillings from former Rubabo County legislator and her husband, Godfrey Rwihunga Turyahikayo, between October 2020 and February 2021 at Centenary Bank, Kabale branch, under the false pretense of purchasing land in Rwakaraba, Kabale Municipality.

During the proceedings, Kabale Grade One Magistrate Aziza Nyevu found Twinomuhangi guilty on both counts, ruling that prosecution had proved the charges beyond a reasonable doubt. However, the Defense lawyer Solomon Atiba requested for an adjournment of the sentencing, arguing that his client was absent due to illness

But Magistrate Nyevu dismissed the request, noting that court records showed the accused had not appeared in court since August last year and that all parties had previously agreed that the judgment would be delivered regardless of his presence. Following the guilty verdict, the magistrate issued an arrest warrant for Twinomuhangi and scheduled sentencing for March 10, 2026.

Speaking after the verdict, Turyahikayo expressed relief, noting that justice had finally been served following a protracted legal battle.
