Ndorwa West Identified as potential Electoral violence hotspot.
Security officials in Kabale District have identified Ndorwa West Constituency, as a potential hotspot for electoral violence during the ongoing campaign period. This concern was discussed yesterday during a joint security and coordination meeting held at the Kabale District Boardroom.
The Ndorwa West Constituency seat is currently held by David Bahati, who also serves as State Minister for Industry. During the meeting, the Ndorwa West MP aspirant in NRM primaries, Eliab Naturinda Mporera, appealed to security agencies to guarantee protection for candidates and their supporters. Mporera alleged that two of his supporters were physically assaulted in Mukitengye Village on Monday.
He also accused the Butanda Sub-County LC3 Chairperson, Barnet Champion, of vandalizing his campaign posters. The Kabale Municipality MP aspirant, Andrew Baryayanga Ajja, echoed the concern, noting that even the posters of Michael Turyamureeba Byamungu, his opponent, were recently torn down by unknown individuals.
Media reports indicated that a section of residents of Nyombe Parish, Kahungye Sub-county yesterday dismantled the Habuhinga-Kasir Bridge, reportedly in protest of its poor state, blocking Bahati from reaching Butanda Sub-county for his consultative meetings.
In response, the Kabale District Police Commander, Charles Okello, confirmed that police had received directives from the Inspector General of Police to intensify monitoring in Ndorwa West. The Kabale Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Christopher Aine, called for discipline and swift reporting of any acts of intimidation or vandalism.
