The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries has confirmed the outbreaks of Peste des Petits Ruminants (PPR) and Contagious Caprine Pleuropneumonia (CCPP) in Kabale District.

This was revealed yesterday by the Kabale District Veterinary Officer, Dr. Angella Anyongyeire, after fifteen samples collected from Kitumba and Kyanamira sub-counties and sent to the National Animal Disease Diagnostics and Epidemiology Centre confirmed that all specimens were positive for PPRV, with two also testing positive for CCPP.

Dr. Anyongyeire said the veterinary office is mobilizing a district-wide vaccination campaign for goats and sheep, urging livestock keepers to participate in the drive, adding that timely immunization is the most effective defense against further loss of the animals. She also urged farmers to avoid communal grazing, isolate affected herds, disinfect watering points, and prevent mixed-herd pasturing in order to curb the outbreak.
