Uganda’s Ambassador to Rwanda, retired Major General Robert Rusoke, has asked Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee to help mobilise resources for acquiring land to establish a parking yard at Katuna border post in Kabale District.

The proposed parking yard is expected to improve traffic management, strengthen border security and ease the movement of cargo through the Katuna boarder. Speaking during a committee visit to the border on Monday, Rusoke said long queues of trucks have created the risk of accidents and possible fires that could result in loss of lives.

URA Supervisor at Katuna Customs Darlin Hamala, attributed the congestion largely to inadequate parking space on the Rwandan side of the border, saying security personnel have been deployed to manage traffic. The Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Bruce Balaba Kabaasa, acknowledged the shortage of parking space and said the committee would advocate for a lasting solution.
