Muganza Village Shaken by Deadly Motorcycle Crash

2 people yesterday died on spot after a motorcycle they were riding lost control and overturned at Muganza Village along Kisoro -Kyanika road in Kisoro District.

The deceased include a 26-year old motorcycle rider, Jackson Kwiringiye, a Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldier attached to Jinja College of Logistics and Engineering and his passenger only identified as Percy, a resident Kateretere Village, Bukimbiri Sub County.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate, attributed the accident to over speeding and appealed to road users to abide to the road safety guidelines.

While releasing road safety message for this year’s festive season on December 6, the Minister of Works and Transport, Edward Katumba Wamala, said about 60 people died between December 23, 2023 and January 1, 2024 in road accidents.

According to the Annual Health Sector Performance Report 2021/2022, road accidents stand as the second leading cause of death among Ugandan youth.
