Nyombe Residents Seek Replacement for Destroyed Playground
Residents and leaders in Nyombe Parish of Kahungye Sub County in Kabale District, have appealed to the government to establish a new recreational ground in their area, after their only playground was recently destroyed by district authorities, in an effort to restore Nyombe Wetland.
They made the call over the weekend at Nyombe Church of Uganda where the district authorities were handing over bean seeds and sustainable land management tools, including pangas, hoes, and forked hoes, to the farmers who were using Nyombe wetland for liveli hood.
The Nyombe Parish Councilor, Dickson Kamuhanda, the former Nyombe Village Chairperson David Twinomujuni and the Director of Unique Nursery and Primary School, Vincent Biryomumeisho, said that they have been using Nyombe playground for sports activities and other social gatherings, but were shocked when the district authorities destroyed it in a bid to restore Nyombe wetland.
In response, the Kabale District Natural Resources Officer, Henry Tumwesigye, said the playground was part of the degraded Nyombe wetland, but promised to raise the locals concern to the district authorities for consideration.
