Parliamentary Committee Urges Mbarara Hospital Upgrade
The Parliamentary Health Committee has reiterated their request to upgrade Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital to a national-level hospital. This move aims to ease the heavy patient load currently experienced at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
The committee members made this appeal yesterday during a review of budget proposals for regional referral hospitals for the upcoming financial year, 2025/2026.
The Mbarara District Woman Representative, Margaret Ayebare and the Obongi County MP George Bhoka Didi, said that several regional referral hospitals refer their patients to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and elevating it to a National Referral Hospital will enable it to handle all the patients from different places.
The Acting Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital Director, Dr. Deus Twesigye, said the hospital lacks a regional equipment maintenance workshop, which has affected the usage and maintenance of key equipment like CT scans.
