Funding Gap Threatens to Reverse HIV/AIDS Gains in Kabale.

The fight against HIV/AIDS in Kabale District is being undermined by a lack of adequate funding, hindering crucial awareness and prevention programs, according to District Health Educator Alfred Besigensi.

Besigensi revealed this yesterday during a quarterly District Aids Committee review meeting, held at the Health Department’s Board room in Kabale Municipality.
He noted that the department currently receives one million shillings quarterly, which he said cannot fully facilitate coordination meetings, awareness and sensitization campaigns, focusing on abstinence, faithfulness, condom use and prevention of mother to child transmission across the district.

Besigensi added that the district through the budgeting and planning desk should prioritize increasing the funding from one million to at least 10 million shillings quarterly.

The Kabale District Planner, Boaz Kakaru, said that the district and planning desk will continue to look into the matter.
