Foreign Tourist Killed in Kanungu Road Accident: Five Others Injured

A foreign tourist has been confirmed dead and five other people were injured, following a motor accident along the Buhoma-Butogota-Kanungu road in Kanungu District.
Eye witnesses told our reporter, that the tourists were returning from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla tracking. The Buhoma Town Council Chairperson, Moses Basheija, said that the accident occurred today morning around 7:50am at Munyanga Bridge, at the border of Buhoma and Butogota Town Councils.
The Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Gad Rugaju Ahimbisibwe said the accident happened when a Toyota Land Cruiser registration number UAM 271U, that they were travelling in lost control, rolled and plunged into the river. Rugaju said one tourist believed to be an American national died on spot and while other three foreign tourists, the vehicle driver and a female tour guide were rushed to Bwindi Community Hospital for treatment.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Communications Manager, Bashir Hangi, confirmed the accident, adding UWA and security officials are investigating the matter.
