Rukungiri-Kanungu-Ishasha Road Ready for Commissioning.

The construction of the Rukungiri-Kanungu-Ishasha road has been completed and is awaiting commissioning.

The construction of the road began in 2018 and was meant to ease travel between the two districts and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and improve service delivery.

The project was undertaken by Ms China Henan International Cooperation Group at 207 Billion Shillings, which was a loan from the African Development Bank.

The Rukungiri District Chairperson, Geoffrey Kyomukama, said the new road has eased transportation of both agricultural products and locals from Rukungiri to Kanungu District, since the two districts depend on agriculture and tourism.

The Kanungu District Chairperson, Sam Kajojo, said the new road has easily linked the locals with DRC through the Ishasha border, which brings business opportunities.

The Director of Kigezi Coffee Development Academy, Joshua Rukundo, said transporting coffee to Kampala has been a challenge since of the stretch from Kanungu to Rukungiri was in poor state.
