Kabale Sees Surge in Teenage Pregnancies: Over 1,700 Cases Reported

Kabale District has registered 1,746 teenage pregnancy cases out of the 13,421 total pregnancy cases from January 2024 to February 2025, the Kabale District Assistant Health Officer in charge of Maternal Health, Paddy Mwesigye, has said.
Mwesigye, told our reporter yesterday that of the 1,746 teenage pregnancy cases, 377 were recorded from January to March 2024, 388 were recorded from April to June 2024, and 365 cases were recorded from July and September 2024, while 344 cases were recorded between October and December 2024. He added that 272 cases were recorded between January and February 2025.
Mwesigye, attributed the continued teenage pregnancy cases in the district to high poverty levels, lack of access to education and reproductive health services, cultural norms, and inadequate parental guidance.
