Rubanda Man Arrested for Murder, Torture

Police in Rubanda District have arrested Matius Turihohabwe, a resident of Kanaaba A village, Bubaare Town Council, on suspicion of murder and torture.

Turihohabwe’s arrest follows the death of his 10-year-old daughter, Fortunate Natumanya, and the alleged torture of his 13-year-old son, Robert Owomugisha. Both children were pupils at Kitagyenda Primary School.

It’s alleged that on Saturday around 9PM, the suspect severely beat Natumanya and Owomugisha, causing them to lose consciousness. Turihohabwe accused Owomugisha of stealing Irish potatoes.

The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Elly Maate said Turihohabwe was arrested to help police in the investigations while Owomugisha is receiving treatment at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.
