Kabale District authorities have given a one month ultimatum to the contractor of Kakomo Secondary School construction project in Kitumba Sub-county, to rectify structural defects ahead of the project’s planned commissioning next month.

The ultimatum was issued yesterday to Redstone Holdings Limited by Kabale Resident District Commissioner Major Godfrey Katamba during a monitoring visit to the project. The Shs1 billion project, which started in 2024, includes the construction of staff houses, classrooms, a library, multipurpose hall and pit latrines, among other facilities, but remains uncommissioned after missing its November 2024 completion deadline.

District leaders and school officials raised concerns over cracked floors and incomplete works, including missing curtain rods and floor tiles in the staff houses.

The contractor and Kabale District Engineer Januarius Turinawe Bagamuhunda, denied allegations that substandard materials were used, saying the construction materials had been tested. Major Katamba directed the contractor to correct all the defects within one month, warning that action would be taken if the works are not completed before commissioning.
