Kabale hit by fuel price surge amid global conflict fears
Fuel prices have surged at various fuel stations in Kabale town, with managers and staff attributing the hikes to global tensions, specifically the ongoing conflict involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran.
The manager of Shell Fuel Station Kabale in Central Division, Moses Turyashaba stated that the price of diesel has risen from 5,250 to 5,530 shillings per liter, while petrol increased from 5,570 to 5,600 shillings. Turyashaba attributed the increase to instability in the Middle East.
The Manager of Total Fuel station Kabale, Reuben Gumisiriza said petrol prices have risen from 5,360 to 5,560 shillings per liter and diesel from 4,890 to 5,290 shillings, citing low supply from the company. Gumisiriza added that they even ran out of fuel for three days last week, which he noted has negatively impacted both their customers and their business.
At Motomax Energy fuel station in Mwanjari, an employee speaking on condition of anonymity stated that diesel prices rose from 4,850 to 5,300 shillings per litre, while petrol jumped from 5,200 to 6,200 shillings. The Chairperson for Kabale District Taxi Operators and Drivers Cooperative Union, Saturday Byamugisha explained that they are planning to hike transport fares, as the surge in fuel costs has made current rates unsustainable.
