Kabale District authorities have today launched the construction of a 375-million-shilling theatre at Kakomo Health Centre IV in Kitumba Sub-county, aimed at bringing emergency surgical services closer to residents.

Speaking at the launch, Kabale Chief Administrative Officer Robert Mugabe said the project which was expected to be completed in the 2025/2026 FY, was delayed by processes involving the UPDF Engineering Brigade. Mugabi however said the project is expected to be completed within three months.

Kabale District LCV Chairperson Denis Nzeirwe said the theatre will be constructed in phases with the district also lobbying the government to provide the necessary medical equipment.

Kabale District Health Officer Dr Gilbert Mateeka said the theatre will enable the facility to perform emergency surgeries, especially for mothers in labour which will help reduce referrals. The facility currently refers about 20 patients each month for surgical care.
