98 Juveniles, including three girls facing murder charges, Remanded at Kabale Remand Home

A total of 98 juveniles, including three girls facing murder charges, are currently on remand at Kabale Remand Home for capital offences, the Kabale District Senior Probation and Welfare Officer Monica Muhumuza Nzeirwe has revealed.

Speaking yesterday during a mentorship session at Ndorwa Muslim Primary and Secondary Schools in Southern Division Kabale municipality, Muhumuza said that the highest number of juveniles comes from Mbarara City and Mbarara District, Rukungiri, Kisoro and Kanungu districts.

Muhumuza said the high number is partly attributed to poor parenting and family separation which is a negative bearing factor on children. The Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament Enid Atuheire Origumisiriza urged parents, teachers and other stakeholders to strengthen counselling, mentorship and academic support for children to prevent them from engaging in criminal activities.
