Maziba Primary Shuts Down Indefinitely Amidst “Demonic” Attacks
Education authorities in Kabale District, have indefinitely closed Maziba Mixed Primary School in Maziba Sub County, following reports that “demons” have been attacking and disturbing pupils at the school.
The Acting Kabale District Education Officer, Moses Bwengye Tumwijukye, told our reporter yesterday that parents with pupils at the school have been advised to find them vacancies elsewhere.
Tumwijukye stated that reports were received from parents alleging a teacher at the school sacrificed the pupils, though these claims lack supporting evidence.
Yesterday morning, our reporter visited the school and found only one teacher present, with most classes closed. The LCI Chairperson of Omwiziniro Village, Anthony Twinomujuni Boniface, where the school is located, explained that some pupils began exhibiting signs of a mental disorder last term, and the situation worsened this term.
Twinomujuni described the episodes: pupils reportedly attacked by “demons” fall unconscious, scream, and speak incoherently, often calling out the name of Monday, one of the school’s teachers. He added that prayers to exorcise these “demons” have been unsuccessful.
A member of the school management committee, who proffered anonymity, stated that they confronted the Primary Three teacher Expedito Monday, regarding the alleged demonic activity, but he consistently denied any involvement. Our reporter also learned that recently, unidentified individuals attacked Monday’s home, destroying his property and killing some of his animals.
Attempts by our reporter to contact Monday for comment on the accusations were unsuccessful, as his known phone numbers were switched off. The school’s current enrollment stands at 586 pupils.
