Measles outbreak confirmed in Kanungu.
The Ministry of Health has confirmed an outbreak of measles in Kanungu District. The outbreak has so far been confirmed in two villages of Nyabirehe and Rukarara in Kihembe Sub County.
The Ministry confirmed the outbreak on Tuesday after two of the four samples that were taken to Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) turned out positive. One of the two children aged one died yesterday at Kanungu Health Center IV.
The Kanungu Assistant District Health Officer, Kato Besisira told our reporter today that six other samples from suspected cases have been taken to UVRI and are waiting for the results. Besisira said that they are scaling up immunization and sensitization of the affected communities to prevent further spread of the virus to other areas.
