UHRC Tribunal dismisses 9 petitions filed by government institutions.
The Uganda Human Rights Commission-UHRC Tribunal sitting in Kabale Municipality has dismissed nine petitions that were filed by government institutions at the UHRC Mbarara Regional Office.
The three day tribunal which kicked off yesterday at the UHRC Kabale Regional Office in Kabale District presided over by the Commission Chairperson; Mariam Wangadya also adjourned a case in which a former instructor and transport manager at the Kyankwazi National Leadership Training Institute; Sergeant Moses Byekwaso was allegedly tortured by Uganda Wildlife Authority officials while at his home in Kanungu District.
The committee also awarded 45 Million Shillings in compensation to the family of Innocent Twinomujuni who was brutally murdered by two police officers attached to Kabale Central Police Station in 2008. In her remarks, Wangadya reiterated the commission’s stance against handling capital offenses and urged the public to take such cases to courts of judicature.
