Inadequate wages leaves several kabale district staff without June salary

The implementation of Cabinet’s resolution on salary enhancement for scientists in Kabale District has led to wage discrepancies and wage shortfall for the last two Financial Years, the Kabale District Communications Officer, Alex Byakatonda has revealed.

Byakatonda told our reporter yesterday that the district has been operating on supplementary budgets to cater for salaries in the last two Financial Years, citing the 2022/2023 FY budget where the district received a supplementary budget of seven billion Shillings.

In the 2023/2024 Financial Year, the district received a supplementary budget of 124 million shillings, which left the district with a wage shortfall of over three billion shillings. Byakatonda added that the district will experience a wage shortfall of at least two billion Shillings this Financial Year since only 29 out of 31 billion Shillings for wages was passed.
