Kabale health authorities challenges public to embrace regular HIV check ups.
Following the recent revelation by the Uganda AIDS Commission that there is an increase in the number of people especially men dying of HIV/AIDS due to negligence, the Kabale district health educator; Alfred Besigensi has challenged members of the public to embrace regular HIV check-up in order to know their status and live positively.
The Uganda AIDS Commission Board Chairperson; Dr Ruth Senyonyi last week said more men are dying of HIV than women because of poor health behavior, adding that of the 19,000 deaths registered last year, 8, 700 were men, 8,200 were women and 3,200 children.
During an interview with our reporter at Kabale District headquarters in Kabale municipality yesterday, Besigensi said misinformation and stigma surrounding HIVIAIDS still exist in many communities, leading to hesitance in seeking treatment. He however outlined the benefits of regular health check-ups, saying not only do they facilitate early intervention but also encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles and preventative measures, reducing the overall transmission rates of the virus.
