Nyamweru residents demand gov’t to construct Health centre.
Residents and leaders in Kyokyezo Parish of Nyamweru Sub County in Rubanda district have asked the government to construct a health center in the area, to ease access to health services.
The parish with a population of approximately 2000 people has no single government-owned health facility. The Nyamweru Sub County LCIll Chairperson; Alex Nkwasiibwe told our reporter that residents currently trek a distance of between 6 to 7 KM to Bwindi Health Center Ill and more than 25km to Hamurwa Health Centre IV to access treatment. He noted that constructing a health center in the parish would save residents the burden of trekking long distances.
Baker Kabiizira andEnid Kyomuhendo, both residents of Kyokyezo Parish said patients’ especially expectant mothers face several hurdles in accessing antenatal services because of the poor road network and long distance to the neighboring health facilities.
The Rubanda District Health Officer; Dr. Abdon Birungi said there are no plans of constructing a health facility in the area, but noted that the district council recently passed a resolution for the district health department to carry out an outreach in the parish weekly to ensure that residents access services easily.
