Only 954 Kigezi Women Benefit From GROW Project as Leaders Urge Reform
Only 954 women in the Kigezi sub-region have so far benefited from the government’s GROW project, with local leaders calling for a review of loan requirements they say are limiting more women from accessing the funds.
This revealed yesterday during a stakeholder project review meeting in Rubanda District, organized by Centenary Bank, the Private Sector Foundation Uganda and the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
The Women Entrepreneurs Platform Chairperson for Kigezi Winnie Bavuuga and the Kanungu Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Gertrude Mutahakana, said many women cannot meet the harsh collateral requirements demanded by financial institutions, while there is limited awareness about the project.
