Mpox Response Plan in Place for Kabale district
The Kabale District Mpox Task Force has developed a comprehensive response plan to combat a potential outbreak of the highly contagious disease.
The plan, which includes a budget of 41.9 million Ugandan shillings, outlines strategies for coordination, surveillance, case management, risk communication, and vaccination.
District Health Officer Dr. Gilbert Arineitwe Mateeka presented the plan to the task force, emphasizing the importance of preparedness in light of the rising number of Mpox cases in the country. While Kabale District has not yet reported any confirmed cases, the threat of an outbreak remains a concern.
The 41.9 million shilling budget will be used to fund various activities related to Mpox prevention and control, including facilitating meetings, conducting risk assessments, and providing necessary medical supplies. The district expects to secure these funds through partnerships with implementing organizations in the region.
Despite the growing number of Mpox cases nationwideandwith a total of 21 confirmed cases in the whole country, no fatalities have been reported in Uganda to date. The Kabale District Mpox Task Force’s proactive approach aims to prevent the disease from spreading to the region and ensure that the district is well-prepared to respond to any potential outbreaks.
